Hi
I'm a 26 year old Trinidadian Soprano, and I'm really glad to find that there's a place for Trinis who love Classical Music to get together and bounce ideas around.

Thank you folks very much for creating this website. I wish most of our young people these days can appreciate the beauty of 'classical music'.
Anyway, if any member has a question about Antonio Vivaldi (his life and music) I'm willing to assist. Sort of a Vivaldi expert people call me.
Currently, I'm transcribing his Op.3 No 8 (RV 522) for the pan, would anyone like to assist? |

Hi,
I'm definitely interested in your work. Last week I heard British violinist Oliver Lewis and Trinidadian pannist Liam Teague perform Vivaldi's 'Winter' from his Four Seasons at a concert 'Strings, Song & Steel', here in Trinidad. It was awesome and I would really love to learn more about this new work you're doing - transposing for pan. I'm not a musician myself, but enjoy classical music and as the steel pan is still evolving I'm happy that you're doing this tremendous work - Keep in touch and I do hope you get the help you're looking for. Do you know Liam Teague - he's an Asst. Professor of Music at North Illlinois University - he may be interested in the work you're doing and he's a brilliant pannist. |

Thank you Maria for your vote of confidence; it's great to know that you admire what I'm trying to do, unfortunately, most I don't have anyone in Trinidad who's quite interested in my work. I love really really love Antonio Vivaldi's music. It's strange that most people tend to regard Bach as the great of the baroque era, but after doing alot of research, I realised that Bach felt the same way I do about Vivaldi's work (and that's why he (Bach) transcribed alot of Vivaldi's concerto's) his music was flawless, simple and full of beautiful melodies and there's so much more to his music than the Four Seasons. Which in my opinion, is not his best work, great, but not his best at solid composition. If you've ever listened to the piece I'm trying to transcribe, (RV 522 Op 3, No.8 ) you'll notice how . 8simple but beautiful that piece is, especially the first movement.

If you really need to know how beautiful Vivaldi's music is, listen to these two pieces of music :
Concerto for 4 Violins, Cello and Strings in B Minor, [L'estro Armonico Op. 3/10, RV 580]
Concerto for 2 Violins, Cello and Strings in D Minor, [L'estro Armonico Op. 3/11, RV 565 ] |

Evening all,
I am a 30yr. old soprano. Trinidadian. And (get this) sort of confused. I would like to take private voice lessons but I really don't know where to start. And then cost is a huge factor. I'm on a budget. I feel as though my voice is just there. I do sing with a choir, but I have a problem singing out. I grew up being laughed at and stuff cause I love opera and classical music. and at that time everyone was into pop etc. I mean I like all genres but, for me nothing compares to a high C...
In my choir there are great singers. And sometimes I'm told to sing out on notes that I just don't know how to. So I do it anyway, and, the other day I hurt my throat badly. I couldn't swallow for some days. I thought that maybe if I did what they said, it would work. But it didn't for me. I initially had aspirations of entering Music Festival 08, but I still haven't found a tutor.
Sorry to be so long...
Take care...
I recently asked one of the members if I was wrong for seeking help from an external source, and she told me to go full steam ahead. If my spirit told me to do that, don't hold back, or else I'll never do it.
So really I'm looking for some advice on the whole and on voice tutors in Trinidad. Where I can find them etc. The thing is too that there are no listings online for any tutors in our country. It's sort of who you know. I really don't want to ask my choir master. She seems so busy all the time. |

Welcome, Leelu!
I sent a private message with information - but for all members, please if you know of teachers in any classical music discipline, write to the foundation so that they can be added to this list:

Hi,
Just saw the post by Leelu. Another thing you can do is to ask the members of your choir who sing solos in a way you admire. They may also be receiving private instruction and could introduce you to their teacher. And don't be afraid to ask your choir mistress - after all, it is her choir that will benefit from your any training you do, it's just that a choir is not the place to access individual vocal training. Music Festival '08 is just around the corner, so I would think that you will be better prepared if you set your sights on 2010 if you're thinking of singing in the open soprano or operatic classes. You could think of joining with a friend for the group (duet, trio, quartet) sessions for 2008 however. |

Hello everyone!
I am a caribbean born composer/conductor/pianist and educator but live in the United States. I currently teach piano, theory and composition and am a church musician as well.
I'd defintiely have to say the choral/vocal music is my fav genre to listen to and to compose. I'm also in love with the idea of composing ballet/dance suites.
Anyway, this looks like a great place to meet and I'm sure I'll enjoy myself here. |

Hi I'm 17 years old and I am a soprano in the St.Joseph's P.O.S. choir. I have a big passion for singing, I absolutely love it and it is my main ambition. I've entered in this Music festival for choir, mixed choir, solo, duet and trio.
I have no idea how to start my career I'm in need of help. I went on CMDFTT site and saw that there was a Holistic Music School in Belmont but they didn't mention how much you have to pay or if it's free. I already did Music for O'Levels so I don't want to do the same thing again.
Does anybody have info of where I can go for voice classes for a low price. I really need a good jump start befor I start university. |
