Do you think Vivaldi would have been a great influence on composers of the classical and romantic era like Beethoven and Mozart, if his music wasn't 'lost' during that time? Reason being, since Vivaldi, there seem not to have any other composer that has mastered the violin concerto like this guy?

I think that all the great composers, were influenced by the music of their time(s), therefore, yes.

I don't know though if you're implying that Mozart's symphonies would have been greater, had he been influenced by Vivaldi? That, we will never know!

There is a possibility that they might have been inspired. Bach was certainly inspired by the works of Vivaldi and actually perfected what Vivaldi pioneered. Vivaldi had a gift for drama and lyricism that Bach learned from. But, Vivaldi did not have the ability to sustain his dramtic and lyric ideas.

Mozart definitely had a gift for drama and lyricism and was able to sustain it throughout his composition. Beethoven on the other hand only had a great gift for creating dramtic ideas through motifs. Beethoven really didn't have a gift for melody. This is where coming in contact with the "lost Vivaldi" would have helped. Beethoven's musical ideas are all formed from triads and broken chords. It would have been nice if he had acquired the abilty to craft true melodies and themes.

So, I guess someone like Beethoven would might have profited if he knew the works of Vivaldi.
